Car Key Replacement Cost by Make: 2026 Pricing for 15 Popular Brands
What your car key replacement actually costs depends heavily on the make, because the make decides the key system and the key system decides the job. Here is every major brand, with the key types you will meet and how the locksmith and dealer routes compare. The dollar ranges are our own estimates, not quoted prices: no locksmith or dealer publishes a rate card for key work. The checkable published anchor is set out under the table.

Luxury brands (highlighted) tend to have higher costs due to dealer-only programming requirements and proprietary key blanks. Ranges cover the key blank and programming together.
Where these ranges come from, and what is actually published
Independent locksmiths and franchised dealers quote key work per job and do not publish rate cards, so the figures above are our own estimates rather than sourced prices, and we do not substitute an aggregator's estimate for a published one. Two halves of the job are published and you can check both. Batteries Plus lists replacement fobs between $19.99 and $87.99 by vehicle plus a mandatory $74.99 cutting and programming fee (checked September 2026; it notes store pricing may vary, and that cutting and programming are not available in New Jersey). Aftermarket fob hardware is listed per FCC ID by the locksmith supply trade: the Honda KR5V2X smart fob, for instance, was $21.59 aftermarket and $78.57 OEM new on Locksmith Keyless on 27 September 2026. What nobody publishes is the mobile call-out, which is why a driveway visit costs more than driving to a store, and why the ranges above are wider than the published parts-plus-programming figures alone.
