Honda Accord runs second only to the Civic in our dispatch log for Honda models, and the model-year split matters more than on the Civic because Honda staggered the smart key rollout across trims. The Accord we replace keys for most is the 2018 to 2022 tenth-generation Sport or EX, where the KR5V2X smart proximity fob is standard across the lineup. The locksmith range for that fob is $240 to $360. The dealer range is $340 to $500. Both numbers include the cut emergency blade tucked inside the fob, the proximity pairing to the vehicle, and a verification drive. Touring trims add the remote-start button, which the fob supports but does not change the cost.
If your Accord is a 2013 to 2017 ninth generation, check your trim before pricing. The LX and Sport trims in that range kept the older remote head key, FCC ID MLBHLIK-1T, locksmith pricing $130 to $230. The EX-L and Touring trims gained the smart proximity fob earlier than most rivals, FCC ID KR5V1X, locksmith pricing $200 to $320. Honda used the same trim badging on each but the under-the-hood key system diverged by trim, and a locksmith who only checks the year without confirming the trim will quote the wrong number.
The eleventh-generation Accord, 2023 onwards, is the most expensive Accord key to replace. Honda redesigned the shell, lengthened the antenna for stronger proximity wake, and bumped the OEM list price. Locksmith pricing sits at $280 to $400, dealer at $400 to $580. The hybrid uses the same fob spec as the gas model, so the powertrain does not affect cost. The Sport-L and Touring hybrids have remote start as standard from the fob.

Same year, different key, different bill
On many Hondas, every trim in a given model year uses the same key system. On the Accord, this is not true for the 2013 to 2017 ninth generation. EX-L and Touring got the smart proximity fob early. LX and Sport stayed on the remote head until the 2018 tenth-gen refresh. The price difference is $70 to $100 depending on channel.
Two ways to confirm which key you have before calling. First, look at the dash. If the start button is a physical key insertion slot, you have a remote head. If the start button is a push-button (round, no slot, often glows blue or amber), you have a smart proximity fob. Second, check the fob itself. A remote head will have a metal blade integrated into the fob body. A smart proximity fob will have a fold-out emergency blade tucked inside the fob, released by a small slider button, used only when the fob battery dies.
On the 2018+ tenth and eleventh generations, all trims use the smart proximity fob, so the trim trap is not an issue. But it is the single most common quote error we see on the ninth-gen Accord. Confirm your trim and key type before booking.
